Automatic Derivation of Middle Surfaces

Leading Question

The center plane of a volumetric CAD model is a simplified representation in CAx analysis. It delivers the same results as the original "full model" with significantly reduced computational effort. The derivation of middle surfaces of a CAD model is therefore an important step in the technical analysis of components.

Our Contribution

As part of the research project "Advanced Engineering Design Automation (AEDA)", Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH has developed an automatic approach that makes this manual processing step superfluous. The new approach is easy to use, delivers convincing results and is scalable.

Your Benefit

Middle surfaces represent a sensible simplification step to make optimization and simulation processes manageable in terms of computing effort and time. The automatic derivation of middle surfaces not only increases efficiency in technical analysis, it also reduces the sources of errors in manual processing steps.
